Drew and I are headed out into the wild blue yonder on a search for the college of his dreams. Well…it’s not really the wild blue yonder. It’s more like the monotonous cornfields of the flatlands. I’ve accepted the scenery won’t be great, but the company? Priceless. I do admit, it is a bit of a scheme on my part. How else is a mother of a seventeen year old going to get three days, 1500 miles, and countless hours of unabated alone time with her eldest child, other than to hold him hostage in a car…in the middle of no where?
My plans for our time together are probably a bit different than his. I plan on discussing his future. Pointing out all of the opportunities that lay at his feet, in hopes that he’ll recognize that the world is his for the taking. Maybe we’ll stop at a Cracker Barrel and “borrow” a book on tape to listen to and discuss. We’ll share philosphical views and discuss topics of great depth.
I have a suspicion his plan is to watch the movie Alien on his iTouch. Little does he know I swiped his ear buds. (Mean…I know. I’ll give them back after the first 500 miles. I promise.)
Sean’s holding down the fort at home with the aide of a small army of helpers. He’s looking forward to it. (So am I…snicker.)
I’ll be checking in when I can. I’m sure there will be some antics along the way. To keep tabs on us follow me on Twitter. (I’m getting much better at the Twitter thing. Now I just need some followers so I can stop Tweeting to myself.)
Now if you’ll excuse me, I have some packing to do. We leave for Columbia, Missouri, at noon!
