College Search Road Trip – A Scheme for Some Mother/Son Bonding!

Drew and I are headed out into the wild blue yonder on a search for the college of his dreams.  Well…it’s not really the wild blue yonder.  It’s more like the monotonous cornfields of the flatlands.  I’ve accepted the scenery won’t be great, but the company?  Priceless.  I do admit, it is a bit of a scheme on my part.    How else is a mother of a seventeen year old going to get three days, 1500 miles, and countless hours of unabated alone time with her eldest child, other than to hold him hostage in a car…in the middle of no where?

My plans for our time together are probably a bit different than his.  I plan on discussing his future.  Pointing out all of the opportunities that lay at his feet, in hopes that he’ll recognize that the world is his for the taking.  Maybe we’ll stop at a Cracker Barrel and “borrow” a book on tape to listen to and discuss.  We’ll share philosphical views and discuss topics of great depth.

I have a suspicion his plan is to watch the movie Alien on his iTouch.  Little does he know I swiped his ear buds.  (Mean…I know.  I’ll give them back after the first 500 miles.  I promise.)

Sean’s holding down the fort at home with the aide of a small army of helpers.  He’s looking forward to it.  (So am I…snicker.)

I’ll be checking in when I can.  I’m sure there will be some antics along the way.  To keep tabs on us follow me on Twitter.  (I’m getting much better at the Twitter thing.  Now I just need some followers so I can stop Tweeting to myself.)

Now if you’ll excuse me, I have some packing to do.  We leave for Columbia, Missouri, at noon!

How fun! I will watch for your tweets (and I already follow you)! Where are Drew and you visiting? Is U of I on the itinerary? Bob and I loved our college experiences there. I have many happy memories from visiting colleges with my parents.

If you are anywhere near Chicago, feel free to stop by! Sounds like an awesome trip! Can’t wait to hear about it. 🙂

I am sure you and Sean will both have some great stories/lots to write about after you get back! 🙂

    Hey Kathy…

Drew won’t look at U of I because he wants to run and their coach isn’t interested in recruiting him. That could change after his upcoming season, but he seems to have some awesome schools picked out!

And, I’m hoping to get another trip back to Chicago to see Loyola with him. Maybe we can meet then!

    As always, thanks for reading!

One word – UNBELIEVABLE! Where has the time gone?! Seems like last month I cared for the sweetest little boy there was. Drew was always one of our favorites. Such a sweet spirit and I’m sure he is still like that!

Enjoy this precious time together! It’s so hard but good when the first one flies the coop!

    Take care!

Oh Brenda, I’m sitting here in the Fairfield Inn in God-Knows-Where thinking the same thing. How did this happen? He loved you just as much as you loved him! We will always be grateful for the wonderful care you gave him as a toddler. And yes…he’s still as sweet as ever! (But kind of stinky at times!)
