Decorating Help! I Need Some Inspiration!

I’m struggling this week.

I know it’s not even December yet, but I already feel “behind”.  I don’t have my outdoor stuff up and the indoor stuff is taking forever.

Decorating with two one year olds and one four year old is like taking one step forward and two steps back!

I did manage to get my Christmas village up.  I have a love/hate relationship with that fictitious town.  I wrote about a couple of years ago, but I have to admit watching MK play with it has softened me a bit.

Um…Paul Revere’s steeple is about to be overtaken! This can’t be good for the villagers!

And I’m sure worshippers are terrified at this poor church! Can you imagine a turtle of that size sitting on the bell tower?

Mk has a perma-chair set up so she can play with it.

I’m going to tackle a bit more today, but would love to hear from all of you.  What is  your favorite part of Christmas decorating?   Please share…I need some inspiration!

I want to live here…

Carolyn, I was also one of those moms who got overwhelmed about this time every year…thinking I had to do everything and having time to do almost nothing. Finally, I sat back and thought about what was most important to the family. Those are the things I tackled, and I let the rest slide for a few years…adding them only when the family was able to participate. The tree was a definite as was the family nativity set. We decorated outside as a way to wave hello and wish our neighbors a Merry Christmas. I hated to bake, so I didn’t worry about making 300,000 dozen cookies: If we baked only one batch of my grandmother’s recipe for orange drop cookies, and one bar cookie, that was okay. We all signed the Christmas cards, although I would address them all. Don’t worry about wrapping every gift for your kids. They won’t care…they can get to them faster! Take some time to watch a few Christmas shows as a family; and be sure to allow time for your husband and you in the evenings, after the kidlets are bedded down, if you can keep your eyes open! God bless you and yours with a worry-free and a very Merry Christmas!!!

I start planning the holidays over the summer and then I seem to run out of steam by the time the holidays get here. I have all the lovely “have to haves” but sometimes…it gets over whelming.. I gave the hubby this yr off from putting up the icles, but am missing them so much. My 6 yr old is into disarranging all my arranging so…like you I need a reboot of inspiration. I did put the flag but still need to do the door. the stockings all need to be brought out and holder positioned. I am so inspired by the food..the coffee creamers and the snacks of the season..yummy!! I can’t use my village as my little will def. break it..so it will stay in boxes another yr. can’t wait to see your decorations that you and I enjoy so much..
good luck… I have a ton of stuffed soft ornaments that I use when the kids are small. lots of little people with more hands then we have…so much fun…love them a little bit more when they least deserve it.. ENJOY!!

I have to say – the decorating is not my favorite part of the holidays! I used to love it and now, I just don’t care so much. Not that I don’t love the holidays but I don’t love all the work that goes into it!! So I now take things at a much slower pace…take a few days to decorate and try to enjoy the process a bit. If it makes you feel any better, I have the outside lights up but NOTHING done in the house. And my village? Simply skipping it this year. I think I will have a renewed interest when we have little ones in the family once again but right now? The 24 year old doesn’t seem to mind if it’s not up and I’m ok with that!
