CATEGORIES: Glass City Parent,
Every Wednesday I appear on 101.5 The River with Rick and Mary Beth to discuss a parenting topic. Tune in this Wednesday to hear me discuss my favorite internet reads. Not local? Catch my appearance on I Heart Radio!
I don’t know about you, but Sean and I more often than not, go to sleep by the glow of our phones. Now before you jump to the comments section and get your advice panties on about the invasiveness of bedroom texting, allow me to calm you. We aren’t texting or emailing. That would take too much effort post 11 pm and before my inevitable nightly narcoleptic collapse.
We are reading.
For him, his sites of choice include running forums and ESPN Sports Center articles. ( I know, I know. I don’t get it either.)
For me, it’s usually the handful of blogs and a few funny parenting websites that lull me to sleep.
Gone are the days of piles of magazines and newspapers on my bedside table. My reading material comes almost solely from the internet, which is great. Not only has it reduced the clutter of my bedroom, but it has opened my eyes to writers that decades ago I would have never had the pleasure of reading.
Anyways, I hear there’s a snowstorm coming. So, even if you don’t like to read your phones,iPads or laptops before bed, perhaps, if you get caught in a snowbank, you’ll need something to pass your time. And, if you’ve got minutes to burn, why not laugh a little?
The Honest Toddler – Side splitting blog written from the point of view of a toddler whose obsession with his mommy, and addiction to juice, tv, and crackers will make you laugh out loud every single time!
Momastery - Written by Glennon Melton, this inspirational blog always provides readers with a raw and honest (very honest) look at motherhood. Melton has a book coming out in April and I, for one, am excited about the read.
The Bloggess - Jenny Lawson’s blog is about as funny as it gets. There’s some colorful language, a lot of references to mental illness (it’s funny…I swear), and some invaluable insights into what makes us all human.
What The Flicka – Is more of a parenting website with several contributors all brought together by former Desperate Housewife starlet, Felicity Huffman. There are funny anecdotes, recipes, and some DIY stuff that doesn’t require you to be Martha Stewart.
The Reedster Speaks – Cindy Reed’s smaller but just as funny blog is full of down to Earth, regular but holy-moly funny parenting stories. A must read.
Confessions of a Semi-Domesticated Mama – Delilah (I think that’s her name…not sure it’s her real name) has a site with recipes, household decorating tips, and hilariously dry wit. She’s the mother five kids and her stories make me feel normal…which says a lot!
Snarkfest – Teri’s blog always gives readers a funny but sarcastic look at mothering teenagers. Funny stuff.
