CATEGORIES: Focusing on The Joy,
We snuck away last weekend.
After the Fourth of July festivities ended–on the third…because that’s how we roll in Toledo–we packed up and headed to my parents’ home in Michigan. Sean couldn’t go because he is currently slammed at work. (You see, MetLife sold Walnut Street Securities to Setera but Savage and Associates decided to investigate and ultimately partner with an alternative broker dealer, Royal Alliance…Um…Wait? What? I lost you after Walnut Street blah-blah? You’re forgiven! It’s taken me the last six weeks to understand that much of why my husband is currently buried in paperwork.)
Anyways…it was just the five kids and I.
We arrived at my parents home on Thursday night just in time for a July 4th dinner with all the trimmings.
There’s something so relaxing about going home to my parents. It’s not that I grew up in their house. They’ve long left my childhood streets but just because the house isn’t the same, doesn’t mean it’s not home. For whatever reason I sleep more comfortably and am able to wind down just a little more easily when I’m in their Michigan home. Must be the air…or the promise of the adventures that will unfold the next day.
And unfold they did…
Drew and Ryan were in heaven. They golfed every day and swam by the last light of the sun. We watched a movie every night and laughed and laughed. It’s so nice to capture our teenage sons in moments when I don’t have to share them with their abundant social lives…and social media. They’ve grown up coming to my parents’ Michigan home and I think they find their time there nostalgic. It’s a gift to watch them watch their little sisters experience their childhood. I can tell they want the girls to have what they did all those summers ago.
Of course, we missed Sean. Coming home is always good.
We are back to the rough grind that is July in our Ohio home. We have parks to visit, pools to swim in and summer bucket lists to check off and two weeks to complete it all because come July 20th we are back to Michigan again–this time for an entire week. That makes this past weekend a taste of the fun that’s to come.
I can’t wait!
